Cyclone Amphan claims 133 lives and 15bn dollar loss

The report highlights the impact of Cyclone Amphan across India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka in May, resulting in the deaths of at least 133 people – 103 in India, 26 in Bangladesh, and four in Sri Lanka – and injuring over 1,200 others. Governments estimated that nearly three million homes were damaged or destroyed, along with significant damage to agriculture and infrastructure. Economic losses were expected to surpass INR 1.0 trillion (USD 13.5 billion) in West Bengal, India, and BDT 127 billion (USD 1.5 billion) in Bangladesh, with much of the damage uninsured.
